Group drawing: Evolution of museum
Each group has different keywords to explore. Here is the compass for each kind of museum and certain parts overlap due to the same cases consisting of multiple characteristics.
Group drawing: ‘MUSEUM COMPASS‘
This semester(2022 Spring) will start with an examination of the historical development of art museums. Based on the research, each pair of students will select an artist and delve into his/her works, beliefs, and ways of presentation, which relate to a different spatial conceptualization manifested through a systematically contrasting way of talking about space.
And we pick the artist, Richard Serra, as our reference.
【02】Prototyping + Translating
Phase 2 is a dialogue between the artist and architect drawing attention to issues shared by art and architecture: concept, language, grammar, etc. So I start to translate the verb list from Richard Serra.
Verb list → Translating the action → Operating the plan wall → Combination

【03】Situating + Programming
Returning to the group of two, each pair of students will test the experimental prototype of the art museum to adapt to the specific constraints, forces, and characteristics of the site and self-defined program, and propose a coherent design proposal working with topography and landscape, circulation, functions, and space form in the virtual context.
The total building area will be 5000-8000 sqm.
